Karen Hardy was appointed by the City of Santa Clara (City) to the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) in January 2021. The City provides water from the San Francisco Regional Water System to commercial/industrial customers in its northern area and to residents in the southern area. The City owns and operates its own water utility.
Ms. Hardy was elected to the Santa Clara City Council in November 2018. In addition to her Council duties, she is Chair of the City’s Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) and serves on the Stadium Authority Audit Committee.
Regionally, Ms. Hardy is a member of the City/Mission College Liaison Committee, Joint Recycled Water Policy Advisory Board, San Francisco Bay Area Regional Water System Financing Authority, San Jose/Santa Clara Treatment Plant Advisory Committee (TPAC), Santa Clara Valley Water Commission, and is an alternate on the Santa Clara County Expressway Plan 2040 Policy Advisory Board (PAB).
Ms. Hardy’s community involvement includes her prior service as Commissioner on the City of Santa Clara Planning Commission, and City of Santa Clara Historical & Landmarks Commission. She is also a member of the City’s Charter Review Committee, and has been involved in numerous local groups including Soroptimists, Roberta Jones Junior Theater, Cub Scouts, Art & Wine Festival, Historic Home Tour, Mission City Opera, Santa Clara Association for Good Government, Santa Clarans for Political Integrity and Ethics, Leadership Santa Clara, and Santa Clara Plays Fair.
Ms. Hardy is a resident of Santa Clara of over 35 years, a mother of three, and grandmother of four.
